Iron Gate Estate

Where every taste is an experience

Iron Gate Estate is one of the Hunter’s finest boutique wineries.

Inspired by the great winemaking traditions of Europe, Iron Gate Estate is a boutique, family-run winery in Pokolbin, producing unique, handcrafted wines that capture the true essence of the Hunter Valley.

Our Reds

The Cabernet Sauvignon, a rarity in the Hunter, thanks to climatic conditions, is a far cry from the big, bold Cabernets of South Australia. Our very light style of Shiraz, made more in the style of a Pinot Noir. The tannins have been deliberately held back to encourage the red berry and pepper characters to show through. The unusual Sweet Shiraz, one of our most popular wines is designed to be served cold, alongside a range of dishes. The dry, French Provencal-style rosé promises crushed strawberries and rose petal on the nose and palate.

Our Whites & Sparkling

In white wine production the “must” is pumped into the computer controlled press. At Iron Gate we only apply half the pressure of most wineries, helping to soften our style of wine. This means we produce less juice per tonne of grapes than many wineries, but results in a premium wine with high quality.

Our sparkling wine is crafted in the methode traditionelle style, undergoing secondary fermentation in the bottle and enjoying 18 months ‘en tirage’ for added richness and body.
