We are excited and proud to notify our members and other wine-lovers the following wines that are to be released on our next members launch night on October the 24th at our winery depending on the Covid-19 regulations at that time.
Firstly, let’s talk about the 2019 Fénix Cabernet Shiraz, our flagship red and pride of the fleet. A big, red wine made from fruit sourced from Mudgee and a blend comprising of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Shiraz. Matured in French and American oak hogshead barrels and made for cellaring, this wine comes in individually numbered bottles with a hand-select top quality cork and black wax finish. The wine is dark crimson in colour with loads of redcurrant and blackberry characters underpinned with just the right amount of oak and a drying tannin and acid finish. Ripe for putting away for a while (if you can resist the urge not to open it). Made for our members, non-members might be able to twist our cellar door staff ‘s arms into letting you have a taste. The 2018 Fénix has proven to be a very popular wine, and I don’t see why the 2019 version won’t be the same. By the way, we are bottling more of the large format bottles this year to match the demand for them (Magnums,Double Magnums and a one only 6 Litre bottle).
Not all of our new releases are red. We can offer to our members two new whites, both from the Primera range. Made from fruit grown exclusively on our vineyard, both the 2019 Primera Semillon and 2019 Primera Chardonnay are good examples of where we are heading in terms of our “new” winemaking style, fresh and fruit -forward.
We are aiming to launch the new 2020 Classic Rosé as well as a sparkling 2020 Blanc de Blanc and a few new reds that we are keeping under our hat until the Fénix launch, which promises to be a great night.
The Semillon is vibrant with citrus bud aromas and a fine, lime-flavoured palate with a sherbet-like finish that will mature well in the Hunter tradition. Perfect with seafood or shellfish or as an aperitif.
The Chardonnay has attractive peach and pineapple aromas backed with barrel ferment and vanillin oak notes. The medium weight palate has enticing flavours of stone-fruit and roasted nut characters with a soft dry finish. Enjoy it with chicken or creamy pasta.
A few new wines may have slipped under your radar. These are the 2019 Classic Verdelho (a classy fruit driven style), and the 2019 Primera Tempranillo ( bright fruit and medium weight) . Both lovely wines, with the ‘19 Verdelho earning five stars and top of Class for Winestate magazine’s “Best of NSW Wine” tasting.
If you are a member of our wine club, look out for them in the May pack.
