The 2018 vintage wine sees the return of our popular Sweet Shiraz. The Iron Gate Sweet Shiraz style has many aficionados amongst our club members. Made predominantly from Shiraz fruit grown on our vineyard, the wine has a complex bouquet of cherry, spice, mulberry and mocha-like oak notes. The palate exhibits red berry like flavours and a sweetness that balanced by a drying and soft tannin finish.

One of our best-selling wine styles, this wine is always snapped up early. The wine has been made in a fruity and obviously sweet style and has been an Iron Gate favourite since its first release.
The secret to this wine’s success is the method of fermenting a portion of the fruit as whole berries which brings an inherent softness to the wine. Deep cherry- red in colour, the wine has a balanced sweetness, and there are aromas of cherry, plum and dark chocolate and coffee notes. The palate is not immediately sweet but fills in a savoury palate of dried plums and dark roasted cocoa beans and a hint of anise. The wine finishes with fruit and a soft drying tannin finish. An introductory wine for those who don’t like dry reds and for those who follow the style. The wine can be served slightly chilled (or not) and enjoyed with a wide range of food from spicy Thai to dark chocolate desserts.
The wine can be enjoyed by itself, slightly chilled or at room temperature with varied range of food like slow cooked meat dishes, cheese platters and after-dinner dark chocolate. Enjoy this wine in moderation.
